PORTSMOUTH - prediction and result Lib Dem Hold
This is the largest local authority that the Lib Dems control and with a majority of 10 seats should stay in control again though Labour will be able to make some capital over the Coalition’s decision over the dockyard.
Labour won Nelson from the Lib Dems in 2012 but only narrowly so it will be a hard fight again. They also did well in Hilsea in 2012 against the Conservatives but would have to do even better this time to win it.
Cosham is a ward the Conservatives are defending but the Lib Dems won in 2012 narrowly ahead of Labour and so either could win it this time and they are also defending Eastney and Craneswater ward which the Lib Dems won fairly easily in 2011 and 2012.
