EASTLEIGH - prediction and result Lib Dem hold
The Lib Dems have such a large majority on the council that it is statistically impossible for them to lose control and they may not even lose a seat this year.
All 13 seats they are defending were held by comfortable majorities in 2010 and their candidates never scored less that 48% in any of these despite Labour and UKIP candidates.
The Conservatives made no progress in 2011 and 2012 and the Lib Dems will be buoyed by their by-election success.
UKIP will hope to win seats after their by-election performance but past elections are no guide to where this might be. The results will be a test as to whether UKIP have learnt about targeting, if not then they may end up with a decent vote everywhere but no seats.
